Romanesque Architecture

First of all when I heard the name Romanesque Architecture,the first thing that comes from my mind is massive quality.It is said that it is the first style dominant in Europe and has a big contribution on 3D visualization in the world of Architecture. It’s icon structure is the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa.The name Romanesque comes from the word Roman and Esque which means “style”.

There are 2 periods,1st is the Lombard Romanesque which involves thick walls,Lombard Band-Ryhthmic ornamentation of arches, and 2nd is the Romanesque which involves lacking if structures.

Parts of an Arch

There are 2 kinds of arch,Circular arch and Constantine arch. The rows of arches are called Archading.

In those time their religion is Monasticism which is established by St. Benedick which is a Monk during the 6th century.

Charlemagne was the one who is elected as the Roman Holy Emperor. They are characterized into 2,the Muslim-Jihad and the Christian-Crusaders.

COLUMNS

Also there are different kinds of columns:

Drum column-cylinder shape

Hollow core column-made up of Masonry

Salvaged column-which is made up of recycled materials.

VAULT TYPES

Dome vault-usually found at the Neolithic village and looks like a beehive tomb

Barrel vault-simplest type,single arch surface that extends from wall to wall

Groin vault-double barrel vault or cross vault
